Polished Concrete
Polished concrete is becoming extremely popular in Kansas City lately as it should be. Polished concrete floors are not only cost effective and durable, but are also maintenance free. A couple great examples for polished concrete in the Kansas City area are all of the Home Depot® floors. These have been polished up to about a 400 grit and have a hardner and densifier applied to them which increases the psi of the concrete. Bass Pro® in Olathe is another good example (upstairs..unstained). Some of the floors are polished concrete and others are polished and stained. (Our "poor man's polish" (pictured below) is the hands down choice for a polished, and stained concrete flooring system)
This is a great option for your basement, garage, shop floor or commercial space. Floors can be polished up to 3000 for a real high sheen. With this sheen many people as if they are slick. Polished concrete is less slippery than waxed linoleum or marble...Plus, major retailers wouldn't be using it if they didn't think it would be safe for their customers. Polishing is excellent for garage flooring, and shop floors. Spills and oils can be easily wiped up without damaging the concrete.
